In a story published earlier this year, the BBC writes about love letters found between a soldier named Gilbert Bradley and his love back home: a man named Gordon. These letters were found after Bradley died in 2008, and chronicle a romance that extended for several years in a time during which it was illegal to take part in homosexual activities.

Particularly striking, the BBC reports, is this line from one of the letters: "Wouldn't it be wonderful if all our letters could be published in the future in a more enlightened time. Then all the world could see how in love we are."
